The Lallgargh Palace is situated on the outskirts of the
Bikaner city and spread over a vast area of land. The imposing red sand
stone Palace was built by Maharaja Ganga Singhji to commemorate the memory
of his Rev. father, Maharaja Sri Lall Singhji. This Palace was designed by
Sir Swanton Jacob of international fame. Red sand stone and mortar, annulled
by age, in forms that are neither distinctively Moghul in conception, nor
completely indigenous in execution, but an outstanding blend of both.
The
material, Artists and Artisans were, of course local. It is among the purest
form of Rajput Palaces with a fine blend of an oriental facade and an
occidental interior. This Palace is entirely built of Red Sand Stone, which
was quarried from the mines at Dulmera Village at a distance of 30 KM from
Bikaner. The intricate dexterous carving on the red sand stone is a hallmark
of great craftsmanship. The lush green sprawling lawns with dancing peacocks
and beautiful bougainvilleas adorn the palace.
