Gangtok
is the capital city Sikkim, the second smallest state of India. Famous for
its many important monasteries, and for the picturesque views of the
Himalayas, Gangtok is one of the important hill station of the country.

The Rumtek
Monastery, which is the largest monastery of its kind in Sikkim and the
Phodong Monastery, one of the most beautiful monasteries in the region,
needs a mention here. These places are easily accessible from the
Gangtok town.Gangtok which, at an altitude of 1,870m, is Sikkim's fairytale
capital in the clouds, balances precariously on steep mountain slopes,

population having increased from 15,000 to 50,000 since it joined India in
1975.

Gomukh Trek : Source of the Gangotri
glacier & source of the river Bhagirathi, Gomukh is located at an
altitude of 4200 metres. Gomukh, the identified source of the river Ganga,
is 18 kms further uphill. The trek to Gomukh is gradual, and severl pilgrims
undertake the journey to pay homage to the river at its known source. En
route accommodation is available at Bhojwasa in Tourist Rest House.
